Due to the increasing demand for oxygen in Tamil Nadu, a project is being implemented to bring oxygen from the Northern states by aircraft.
Coimbatore: With the demand for oxygen increasing in Tamil Nadu, a project is being implemented to bring oxygen from the northern states of India by aircraft. Coimbatore International Airport Director stated that Coimbatore Airport has been readied to be of help in the case of an emergency.
Oxygen demand has increased significantly in all States due to the increasing prevalence of Covid-19. The Central Government is taking steps to send oxygen to Tamil Nadu by oxygen cargo planes. These aircafts are expected to use airports in Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and cities to benefit not only Chennai but also other districts.
Coimbatore International Airport will cater to the people of the surrounding seven districts, so that Coimbatore International Airport is ready to assist in landing any oxygen cargo aircraft safely to Coimbatore and transporting them to the surrounding districts as soon as possible.
Mahalingam, Director, Coimbatore International Airport said, “During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, aeroplanes including the Indian Air Force's IL 76 (Gajraj), landed at Coimbatore Airport. These included anti-infective protection equipment. Currently the spread of the disease has increased the need for oxygen. Due to this dire situation, oxygen is to be brought to Tamil Nadu from the northern states. Coimbatore International Airport is ready to provide all assistance ifCoimbatore Airport is required. As the airport operates 24 hours a day, assistance will be provided to ensure that the oxygen cargo plane lands safely any time," he reassured.
