Family members and co-workers of Fire Dept. SFO as well as Thondamuthur locals shocked by the sudden demise of Thondamuthur Fire Department SFO owing to Covid-19.
Coimbatore: Gunasekaran (55) of Pothanur who has been working at the Fire and Rescue Department since February 15, 1991 died today fighting Covid-19 much to the shock of his family, friends and Thondamuthur public. He is survived by wife Punitha (50) and a son and daughter.
Gunasekaran was promoted as SFO at the fire station in Thondamuthur area which had been inaugurated by ex-Minister S P Velumani over a year ago. He was a man of undivided devotion and respect for his work and a forerunner in expediting rescue operations whenever he received a call from any area while on duty. He is also said to have been on the rescue force during the first Covid-19 outbreak.
During the first Covid-19 wave, Gunasekaran had volunteered to help spraying disinfectants on all the streets in Thondamuthur voluntarily, including what had to be done by frontline workers of the Corporation. When he was questioned by the Corporation last year about effective Covid-19 measures, he advised all the members of the public to isolate themselves in their homes, adhering to guidelines and requested them to follow social distancing and wear face masks to combat Covid-19 infection.
Unfortunately, Gunasekaran, who wholeheartedly advised the public to be vigilant, passed away today due to Covid-19 infection. His sudden demise shocked the public of Thondamuthur who always remembered him for his valiant deeds beyond the call of duty.
