Coimbatore Farmers Association requests permission to operate farmer's market during evening hours

Farmers who have already been greatly affected by the centre's 3 new agriculture laws are now suffering from new curfew rules.

Coimbatore: Due to the second wave of Covid-19, TamilNadu Government has imposed various prevention guidelines from today.

Tamil Nadu Farmers Association District President S Palanisamy said: "People across the country are suffering greatly due to the 2nd wave of Covid-19. Central and state governments are taking various measures to control this. Meanwhile, curfew rules have been tightened in Tamil Nadu. While this is welcomed, the order has completely affected the livelihoods of farmers.

Farmers who have already been greatly affected by the centre's 3 new agriculture laws are now suffering from new curfew rules. With the curfew restrictions have been intensified, wedding ceremonies and temple worship has also slowed down. This has greatly affected the plantain farmers. Bananas and plantain leaves sales have gone down. Farmers who grow vegetables are being severely affected because of the new curfew guidelines.

To prevent us from losing our livelihoods, farmers must be given relief funds. Similarly, local markets are allowed to operate only in the mornings, permission must be given for the market to operate in the evenings.

Also, permissions must be given to operate markets at school and college grounds for farmers to operate maintaining social protocols." said, S Palanisamy
