Final round water for irrigation let out in PAP Third Zone from Udumalai Thirumoorthy Dam
Coimbatore: The 3.77 lakh acres of farmland in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts have been divided into four zones and irrigated by the PAP Irrigation Project through the Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalai. Udumalai and Gudimangalam is also the source of drinking water for the Madathukulam unions.
94,362 acres of land under BAP III Irrigation has been irrigated since January 11. In five rounds, 9,500 million cubic feet of water is to be supplied. Water was supplied in four rounds and on the 26th of last month. From the project set dams, water was brought to Thirumoorthy Dam through the Kandoor Canal. As the water level of the dam rises, the final round of water for the third zone irrigation lands has been opened in the first main canal today.
Public works officials said the final round would provide 21 days of water and the irrigation period would be completed. At present, Thirumoorthy Dam is 48.98 feet out of a total of 60 feet and the discharge to the dam is 820 cubic feet per second.
