Chennai: It is customary to appoint an Assembly Speaker temporarily ahead of the swearing-in of newly elected MLAs in the formation of a new Government.
The ruling party usually decides on the temporary Assembly Speaker and it is said that Manithaneya Makkal Katchi General Secretary Jawahirullah will be given the opportunity this time. Once an official order is passed, the Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit will swear in the temporary Assembly Speaker. Thereafter, the temporary Assembly Speaker will swear in the MLAs chosen by the people.
During the 2011 AIADMK rule, the Republican Party of India leader C K Tamilarasan was appointed as the temporary Assembly Speaker. Later, during the 2016 AIADMK swearing-in ceremony, Semmalai was appointed as the temporary Assembly Speaker.
