Traffic" Ramaswamy dies of Covid complications.
Chennai: Social activist and the man known for his PILs ''Traffic' Ramasamy passed away due to Covid complicationsat Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Chennai on Tuesday.
He was put on ventilator support on Tuesday morning after he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest due to Covid complications. While doctors informed of his deteriorating health condition, the 86-year-old social activist breathed his last on Tuesday late evening.
Wayback, he started his activism by helping regulate the chaotic traffic in and around Parrys Corner and so was referred as ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy by the locals. The 86-year-old was in streets protestingfor various issues like illegal banners, tasmac outlets, contempt of court among others.
He recently held protests in Coimbatore against erection of illegal banners bypolitical parties against court judgement. He questioned the district administration and the corporation for turning a blind eye against the judgement. In December 2020, he created awareness amid the public on electing good representatives.
Public, politicians and social activists are expressing their grief over the death of a man who brought to limelight the power and need of PILs.
