Zoologists call for protecting herd of 'sambar deer' that scamper out in the open on Pollachi Road
Coimbatore: Anamalai Tiger Reserve is home to a large number of elephants, leopards, bears, deer and other animals. Sambar deer have been recently spotted out in the open near Pollachi road belonging to the Highway Department, close to the New Garden area in Valparai.
The wild movement of the herd could cause accidents owing to traffic like buses and other heavy vehicles on the road. Zoological Activists in the area have also raised concerns over tourists stopping midway on the Pollachi road to have a good look at the deer which in turn causes them to scamper onto the road in fright.
Zoologists have requested the forest department to fine people who flout rules in the reserve area to prevent the herd from being hurt.
