Coimbatore: The Dean’s office in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) clarified on Tuesday that there was not a single child admitted due to Covid at the Masonic Covid Centre and added that the news recently aired by a regional TV channel was fake.

During CMCH’s routine briefing on steps taken to battle the Covid-19 crisis, the Dean office told Simplicity that there were no children at the Covid Care Centre in the hospital.

Earlier today, a regional TV channel aired news claiming that there were as many as five children admitted at the Covid Care Centre without much details.

“Do not believe in fake news. There are no children at the Covid Centre,” clarified the Dean’s office.

However, in the past few weeks in April, the number of children testing positive for Covid increased in the state. In the overall tally, children aged 0 to 12 years accounted for 3.6 percent of the total Covid-19 cases during the month of April. Paediatricians have advised children above two years to wear masks if they are being taken outdoors by their parents, to prevent infection.

Though many children show only mild symptoms, doctors have advised parents to take utmost care of their children since the country is grappling its worst pandemic. Respiratory symptoms including gastrointestinal issues such as loose stools and abdominal pain are reportedly common in children. Doctors have advised parents to avail immediate medical consultation for their child if they find any such mentioned symptom among them.
