Coimbatore: At a time when there has been much ado about teachers handling online classes for their students, here is a headmaster willing to walk the extra mile at a time when the states are locking down due to the pandemic.
51-year old Magarajothi Ganesan, a headmaster from Senjeriputhur Elementary School in Sulthanpettai near Sulur, has been in the noble profession of teaching for over a decade now.
With the Tamil Nadu government's announcement to shut schools to keep students safe amidst the second wave of Covid-19. students of Government schools were given bridge course books to keep pace with their curriculum. Ganesan decided to traverse the streets in Sulthanpettai, near Sulur where his students live, to teach them in person. This has become a daily routine for Ganesan since August 2020.
“I visit a maximum of four streets every day and teach almost 40-50 students out of the overall 70 students enrolled at our school. “Students are being forced to shift between alternatives for their education, which is hard at their age. Not all can access online classes and for elementary students it is quite impossible to concentrate. So I took the decision to teach them at their place. This helps students to focus on their education rather stressing mentally by shifting between alternatives," he added.
Ganesan says that parents feel more confident over their child’s education now since he teaches them in person every day. "I interact with parents and students and advice them not to worry over the present situation since everything will be normal once the Covid-19 scenario eases and schools reopen," says a positive Ganesan infusing cheer in the locality.
