Policemen's unprcedented attack on diners at a Gandhipuram restaurant forces Police Commissioner to transfer Sub-inspector to control room and order inquiry
Coimbatore: City police patrolling the Gandhipuram bus stand area of Coimbatore on Sunday night reportedly entered a restaurant and attacked diners, and also smashed their belongings.
The restaurant is said to have been catering under strict Coronavirus restrictions only until 11 pm every day, with only 50 percent seating facility for diners. Passengers who arrived from Hosur at 10.20 pm last night were reportedly dining at the restaurant which had its shutters half closed. Around 6 poeple were seated in the hotel. Sub-Inspector Muthu of Kattoor police station along with a few other policemen reportedly broke into the restaurant and lathi charged those inside. Four people were injured, which included a woman who had been reportedly injured on the head.
Mohanraj, the owner of the restaurant Sri Raja immediately lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police who has transferred the Sub-Inspector to the control room and ordered an enquiry headed by the Assistant Commissioner.
