The DMK President, M K Stalin on Thursday expressed concern over functioning of illegal brick kilns in Thadagam which has caused several health hazards for people living in the nearby five panchayats.

Campaigning in Kavundampalayam constituency for the upcoming assembly election, Stalin assured the people that after coming to power, the DMK would urge the central government to revise the environmental law and ensure brick kilns in Thadagam valley functions under specified conditions .

“I have learnt that as many as 186 illegally functioning brick kilns in Thadagam, with the support of the ruling ADMK party have been causing various health problems to people in the locality. I promise to urge the Union government to revise laws and will bring changes in functioning of the brick kilns,” vowed M K Stalin.

Alleging that the ruling government had temporarily shut down the functioning of 186 brick kilns by approaching the High Court saying the kilns were against the environmental law, Stalin said that such a move has directly stopped the employment of over three lakh workers. "After DMK comes to power, we will urge the Union government to revise the law and allow the brick kilns to function under strict laws," he added.

M K Stalin also assured that the standards of primary and government health care institutions in Chinna Thadagam will receive a facelift.
