4,400 police deployed for election security work in Coimbatore


Coimbatore: With the Tamil Nadu Assembly election day right around the corner, 4,400 policemen are deployed for election security in Coimbatore.

The Tamil Nadu Police is actively involved in ensuring election security. The Polling stations are divided into 'tense' polling stations and 'trouble-free' polling stations. According to the conditions, the police are being deployed to polling booths.

Almost 4 to 6 policemen will be recruited at trouble-free polling stations, and a large number of policemen and Central Task Force personnel will be deployed at tense and very tense polling stations.

The Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Arularasu said, "9 companies of paramilitary personnel have already been deployed in the Coimbatore district. A total of 4,400 people are to be deployed and 1500 NSS students will be in charge of security. In addition, 500 ex-servicemen and police are coming from the neighbouring states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The remaining 400 people will be posted later."

About 650 ex-servicemen, 500 ex-policemen and security personnel from Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts will also be stationed at the booths.There are more than 3,000 polling stations in the Coimbatore district. 4,400 policemen will be deployed at these checkpoints. For this, Coimbatore district police, paramilitary forces, NSS students, ex-policemen, soldiers and others are to be deployed for security.
