Flying squad in Coimbatore has confiscated 10 mobile phones and Rs. 31 lakhs in one day.
Coimbatore: The flying squad has confiscated Rs 31 lakh in cash and 10 mobile phones in a single day in Coimbatore. The officers of the Flying Squad near Pollachi, during inspections, have seized almost 15 lakhs from various people.
As the 2021 Assembly elections for 10 constituencies in the Coimbatore district are scheduled to be held on April 6, the government has setup 60 flying squads across Coimbatore to prevent election irregularities. An election control room has also been set up at the District Collector's Office for the public to lodge complaints regarding election code of conduct violations.
Flying squads are every day conducting intensive vehicle inspections across the Coimbatore district.
In an inspection yesterday, the flying squad near Pollachi has confiscated hefty sum from various people. Rs. 5,66,700 in cash was confiscated from the car that came through without any documents. Following that, Rs. 53,500 taken by Sivakumar from Udumalai without documents was also seized at the Pollachi Thiruvalluvar Stadium.
At the Gopalapuram check post near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, Rs. 66,500 was taken from Mohammad who was travelling from Kerala without documents. At a flying squad inspection near Negamam Four Road, Rs. 78,100 was confiscated from Krishnan of Pappireddipatti without documents. On the Pollachi-Coimbatore Road, Rs. 58,325 was impounded.
Also, the flying squad officials are seizing money from various constituencies in the district on a daily basis. Rs. 3,90,000 which had no proper documents were seized in Kinathukadavu constituency yesterday. Rs. 97,000 in Kavundampalayam constituency, Rs. 1 lakh in Singanallur constituency, Rs. 15 lakhs in Ukkadam area, carried by Bini Joseph was all confiscated due to lack of documents.
In total, Rs. 31,40,950 rupees were confiscated by the flying squad officers yesterday. The officials have also seized 10 mobile phones that had no verifications. All of the confiscated valuables are handed over to the district treasury by flying squad teams.
