Booth slips and tokens for cash distributed by AIADMK: Singanallur DMK candidate N Karthik files police complaint

Singanallur DMK candidate N Karthik files a police complaint on AIADMK members for distributing booth slips and tokens for cash ahead of 2021 elections.

Coimbatore: Ahead of the 2021 polls, The DMK was informed that the AIADMK is issuing booth slips and token for cash to people in many areas including Singanallur. Under DMK leader N Karthik's lead, the booth slips were confiscated from the public and were submitted to the police. This incident has caused a stir last night in Singanallur.

DMK Candidate for Singanallur constituency N Karthik yesterday filed a case on AIADMK members for distributing booth slips and tokens for cash to people, in return for favourable votes in the 2021 elections.

This practice has begun since the exit polls were released. The exit polls conducted by the media has suggested that DMK will achieve victory in the 2021 TN Assembly elections. Fearing their defeat, it is said that the AIADMK members are distributing gifts to the public.

With just 6 days to go for the elections, AIADMK members are also seen making women volunteers distribute polling booth slips and tokens for cash to people during nights. Since the booth slips must be distributed only by government officials, the DMK members who were notified of this, took the issue to the police station.

When DMK members approached the police station with the perpetrators and the evidence, the officials denied registering the case. So, Singanallur candidate for DMK N Karthik lodged a complaint at Gandhipuram Police Station. He said that the police should not be biased and if they repeat this, he will inform the Chief Electoral Officer.

Singanallur DMK candidate N. Karthik said, "Fearing failure, the AIADMK are offering booth slips and cash tokens through ladies at night. Even if they are caught, the police release them. We can no longer tolerate such acts. If no action is taken to prevent this, a complaint will be lodged with the Election Officer."

He also declared that they are ready to conduct a fast unto death in front of the District Collector's office.Following this, the police have filed the complaint and issued CSR to DMK party members.

The DMK members have captured the AIADMK personnel from areas including Ramanathapuram, Masakalipalayam, Siddapudur and Gandhinagar and handed them over to the police. The booth slip and cash tokens were also seized from them.

Prosecutors Krishnamurthy and Vijayaragavan, General Body member MMS Murugan, District Responsible Committee members Rahman, Kannan and Ward Secretary Sasikumar went along with DMK leader N Karthik to file the complaint.
