Kamal Haasan just does lip service - Vanathi Srinivasan

Vanathi Srinivasan's controversial speech on BJP leader Kamal Haasan.

Coimbatore: Last week, Union Minister Smriti Irani campaigned in Coimbatore in support of BJP candidate Vanathi Srinivasan, who is contesting from Coimbatore South constituency. Kamal Haasan, who was contesting against BJP candidate Vanathi at the time, was challenged by Smriti Irani to come to a direct discussion with her on people's issues.

Before that during her campaign, actor Raha Ravi used uncouth language on Kamal Haasan and his personal life.

Following this, CK Kumaravel of MNM issued a statement on behalf of the Makkal Neethi Maiam. It said that Kamal Haasan would like to discuss with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and that the student body ofMakkal Neethi Maiam would be sufficient to discuss with a "Tukkada" politician like Vanathi Srinivasan.

In retaliation, Vanathi Srinivasan videotaped her condemnation and questioned whether this was the respect that the people of the Makkal Neethi Maiam would give to women coming into public life from ordinary family backgrounds.

Then, during a campaign in the 51st Ward area of Swarnambika Lay-out last night, she said, "Should the Prime Minister of our party, the largest party in India, discuss with you? The Makkal Neethi Maiam party says they look at me as a 'Tukkada' politician. I look at that actor and ask. So far you have done only service with his lips. Serving with lips has two meanings, one is to serve people only though mere oral promises and the other is just serving the lips. Such a person is calling me a Tukkada politician and people should respond to Kamal Haasan by their votes."
