High-tech special teams to monitor allowance of party volunteers on field based on Whatsapp photo and video proof
Coimbatore: For the upcoming assembly election work, various measures have been taken by candidates to ensure that only party volunteers and volunteers who are truly field workers will receive daily allowances. This has caused a stir among party volunteers.
Elections usually involve party volunteers from the day the election date is announced upto the end of the election. During the period, daily meals, tea, coffee and daily allowances are provided to volunteers. Money was also given to those who went along on the campaign. But for the first time in this election, special committees have been set up on behalf of the candidates to monitor volunteers in a high-tech manner and distribute the money.
A party volunteer said, "Special meetings were held at all political party offices from the day the election date was announced. Following the announcement of the candidates, work began in all the political party offices. For the first time, special committees have been set up to monitor party volunteers working in the field for the assembly elections and to ensure that they acyually worked. This time round, with the help of technology, volunteers will be able to monitor the locations of the campaigns and submit to the party offices on a daily basis both the photographic and video evidence of their contribution to the party work.
A chairman has been appointed for each of the special teams set up to oversee the volunteers carrying out fieldwork. The chairman will evaluate the activities of the volunteers and confirm that they have actually worked, and then will provide allowances for them, every day thereafter."
"A stipend of Rs. 200 per day is given to each person and also to those who bring in more volunteers during public meetings and campaigns. As IT plays an important role in this system, a separate unit called 'IT Wing' has been set up for each party and various volunteers have been assigned to it. Apart from this, meals are served thrice a day - in the morning, afternoon and night on behalf of a few party candidates. Chicken biryani and eggs are served on Sundays.
Above this, all field workers are given tokens for petrol on behalf of the party candidate offices after confirming that they are actually campaigning on their two-wheelers. These tokens are not available to everyone and a special team has been set up to monitor them. Above all, all the necessary facilities have been made available to the volunteers and party executives at the polling booths set up on behalf of the party candidates," assured the volunteer.
However, this mode of action taken by the candidates in this election has sent huge shock waves to all party volunteers. Some have truly worked on the field, whereas some have pocketed a daily stipend by pretending to work nominally, knowing well that only those who do field work are paid stipends. A special intelligence unit has also been set up and in operation on behalf of the candidates to monitor the activities of all those who have been appointed as the Chairmen of the special committees as well as direct assistants.
