Compliance of COVID-19 rules not satisfactory: DGCA orders the AAI and all airport operators to take strict actions against violators.
Coimbatore: Stating that the compliance of COVID-19 rules was not satisfactory during the surveillance of some airports, the DGCA has now ordered the AAI and all the airport operators to take strict actions on violators. With the increasing cases of COVID-19 across the country, the surveillance report was deemed 'not satisfactory' by the DGCA.
From the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Joint Director General Sunil Kumar had written an order letter addressing the AAI Chairman and all the airport operators on this matter. He stated, "During the surveillance of some airports, it has come to notice that compliance of COVID-19 protocols is not satisfactory. All airport operators are requested to ensure that the instructions on Covid-19 protocols - from the standpoint of wearing masks properly, covering nose and mouth, maintaining social distancing norms within the airport premises are followed scrupulously. Accordingly, all airport operators can enhance surveillance towards this end."
The order also mentioned that levying of spot fines in accordance with law shall also be explored with the local police authorities so as to serve a deterrent for violation of Covid-19 protocol.
Following this, the Coimbatore International Airport Sources said, "At Coimbatore airport, the management has been continuously taking various steps to ensure COVID-19 protocols are strictly followed. We will continue to take more efforts. All the passengers should be aware of the pandemic outbreak and should strictly follow the guidelines. Support from all is must to ensure compliance is satisfactory."
Due to the sudden spike in the COVID-19 cases across the country, the officials are making sure to take the necessary steps to control the spread. Yesterday, India registered almost 68,000 new cases highest single-day rise so far in 2021.
