Coimbatore GH Dean Nirmala lauds GH doctors for removing 1.8 kg tumour from woman's uterus

Coimbatore GH Dean Nirmala commends GH doctors for removing 1.8 kg tumour from woman without causing any damage to her uterus

Coimbatore: A 27-year old married woman from Coimbatore was admitted to the maternity and women's ward at the Coimbatore Government Hospital with abdominal pain and bloating. Doctors who examined her found a 1.8 kg tumor in the upper part of her uterus and had to surgically remove it. Utmost care was taken to ensure there was no damage to her uterus so that there will be no hindrance for her to conceive as planned.

The large tumor was said to be the reason for her infertility and hence the doctors decided to remove the tumour. Since it was expected that the patient may experience excessive blood loss during the surgery, the surgery was performed with the consent of both husband and wife who had to agree that in the event of any complications, the uterus may have to be removed if necessary in order to save her life.

The medical team led by Manonmani, Head, Department of Women and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Head of Department of Anesthesiology, Kalyanasundaram successfully removed the tumor without any sign of damage to the uterus.

Lauding the doctors' efforts, Coimbatore GH Dean Nirmala said, ''This surgery would have cost about Rs. 3 lakh in private hospitals. Since the doctors have removed this tumor from the woman's abdomen, the uterus has been restored thus increasing chances of conception."
