In the last decade, both dravidian parties have made tall promises but not delivered anything. People of Kavundampalayam Constituency are still fighting for their basic right -- to regularise drinking water supply - Surabhi Pankaj.
In-between his busy campaigning schedule, which has rather turned intensive in the last few days, Makkal Needhi Maiam’s (MNM) candidate Surabhi Pankaj of Kavundampalayam constituency in conversation with SimpliCity throws light on his plans for his constituency, if elected to power.
"It saddens me that the Dravidian parties who have been elected to power in the Kavundampalayam constituency for the last decade have done little or nothing for the betterment of the constituency. Time has come for change. People of the Kavundampalayam constituency have realised that they need to elect a responsible and a reliable candidate", Surabhi Pankaj begins. The results of the forthcoming elections will prove this point, he adds.
"The previous legislators have raised high expectations, tall promises and zero-sum delivery. The prevailing civic issues in the constituency are the prime example of sheer inaction. People are tired of fighting for their basic rights", he alleged.
"The mindset of the people has changed. The citizens are well-informed, aware and wanting exercise their right to vote responsibly, this time” a confident Surabhi Pankaj tells us.
Son of the Coimbatore soil, Surabhi Pankaj asserts that he has ambitious plans for his constituency's development for the next five years. "All that I yearn for is a chance to serve the people and an opportunity to implement the various development works for the Kavundampalayam constituency that are just on paper, till date", he added.
Answering to a question on how he will succeed in his plans, the MNM candidate says “As far as MNM is concerned, the post of a legislator comes with a responsibility. Our party President Kamal Haasan has taken an undertaking in writing from all candidates that if the promises made are not met within a stipulated time frame, the respective candidate in question has to but give up their post and make way for an able candidate. This will keep me going and nothing can stop me from serving the people and bringing in a change that the people of my constituency deserve.”

He added that no other political party works in such a manner. This makes it obvious that all candidates of the Makkal Needhi Maiam party are handpicked by the leader who also monitors the individual candidate’s progress from time to time.
Transparency in governance, working for the people and bringing in a change that is long overdue in his constituency has prompted Surabhi Pankaj to fight the elections head on against the two Dravidian party candidates, Payya R Krishnan representing DMK and MLA PRG Arunkumar from AIADMK.
Bringing the focus back to his constituency Surabhi Pankaj assures that to begin with, all wards will be provided with basic facilities like regular drinking water supply, well maintained roads and garbage that will be collected on a regular basis."
It may be noted that hundreds of residents of the second largest constituency in the state allege of irregular supply of water for years together. “It is a pity that people of the Kavundampalayam constituency have had to live a life without the very basics, despite paying taxes imposed by the ruling government. The opposition party on the other hand has been nothing but a mute spectator. However, all this has set a stage for change. The people of the Kavundampalayam constituency will finally see light at the end of the dark tunnel.” Surabhi Pankaj promises.
His message to the people of the Kavundampalayam constituency is Vote For Justice, Vote For Change, Vote For Torchlight Symbol.
