In a judgement passed at the Coimbatore Mahila Court, a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman.

A 60-year old woman along with her 39-year old mentally challenged daughter reside in Ambothi Nagar near Annur, Coimbatore. The mother has been taking care of her daughter who also cannot talk along with her other mental challenges.
It is reported that the mother had left her daughter in a place where she normally took her goats to graze but moved further to tend to her herd.
Saravanan (34) from Mettupalayam who was passing along the route reportedly saw the mentally challenged woman and led her into a bush.
Meanwhile, the old woman who returned was shocked to find her daughter missing. During her search, the old woman saw her daughter being brutally raped by Saravanan and screamed for help. On hearing her scream, Saravanan had run away.
The old woman then filed a case at the All Women's police station in Thudiyalur. Inspector Karpagam filed a case regarding this gruesome incident and immediately arrested Saravanan.
Later, the case was brought to trial at the Coimbatore Mahila Court where Justice Nandini Devi on confirming the evidence against Saravanan sentenced him to 10 years in prison with a fine of Rs. 2000.
