Coimbatore: A financial institution in the Kuniyamuthur area, Coimbatore has come under the scanner for jewellery scam. People from the area approach to pawn their jewellery at this shop for emergency funds.
The institution is headed by the manager Nithyanandan (36) from Kuniyamuthur, and Vigneshwaran (24) from Mayileripalayam is the assistant manager here. Ramya (24) is another employee who works in this place.
Auditors who visited the institution did an official check on the jewels and found a scam that was undergoing at the shop. It was revealed that fake jewellery worth Rs 5 lakhs and 20,125 was used as a replacement for original jewels. When questioned about this, the three employees accepted their role in the scam and requested some time from the management to return the money.
However, the manager and assistant manager went into hiding. When the area manager was notified about this situation, he filed a complaint at the Kuniyamuthur police station.
Sub Inspector Kanagaraj and Special SI Shanmugam are investigating the case under the orders of Inspector Santha. And the police officials have taken Ramya into custody. They are conducting further investigations on this case.
A special police team has been formed to look out for the other two employees who went into hiding.
