Coimbatore: The flying squad officials in Coimbatore have seized 3 kilograms of gold jewels and 30 lakh rupees in cash in the city and it was surrendered to the district treasury today.
With only a couple more days left for the upcoming 2021 TN assembly elections, the flying squad officers and election officials in Coimbatore city are involved in the intense search to prevent political parties from distributing gifts and cash to the public as a bribe for their votes.
During the flying squad search near Ramanathapuram - Nanjundapuram road on Trichy Road today, a van was spotted and it was thoroughly searched. When the officials opened a box inside the van, they found 3 kg and 150 grams of gold jewellery in it. Since the items did not have any documentation, it was seized and was surrendered at the District Treasury.
In another search by flying squad officials in Sowripalayam, authorities found a van that was on its way to fill ATM machines in the city. During the search, the officials found 30.5 lakh rupees without proper documentation. The authorities who seized the money have surrendered it to the Coimbatore South Tahsildar Office.
