Case filed on Dindigul Leoni by Coimbatore Lawyer for derogatory remarks on women's body

In a viral video across social media, Dindigul Leoni can be seen making sexist comments on women's bodies while campaigning in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: A well known Tamil speaker and DMK member Dindigul I Leoni took part in an election campaign on March 23 in Thondamuthur, Coimbatore, to support DMK candidate Karthikeya Sivasenapathy for the 2021 TN elections.

In his speech, Dindigul I Leoni is said to have made a derogatory comment where he criticised women's hips. Following his sexist remark, a woman lawyer from Coimbatore has filed a complaint today with the District Police Commissioner in Coimbatore.

Lawyer Subhashini, who is the founder of 'Pen' Women Welfare Organization in Gopalapuram, Coimbatore, has filed a complaint petition to the District Police Commissioner today.

In the petition, Subhashini has stated that "I have been running the Pen Women Welfare Organization for the last 10 years to support women with legal services. At the recent election campaign organised in Thondamuthur for DMK candidate Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, DMK's propaganda secretary and popular speaker Dindigul I Leoni made derogatory remarks on women's bodies and also made insensitive comments on women.

He said that our women have become fat like a balloon and their hips do not resemble the number 8 shape like earlier and that the women could not carry children on their hips because they have become like a barrel."

Subhashini's petition also stated that Dindigul I Leoni has made some more unspeakable comments degrading the entire women community. She has requested the officials to take action on Dindigul I Leoni and the campaign organiser to ensure women's law safety.

Lawyer Subhashini has also attached a copy of Leoni's degrading remarks along with her complaint petition.
