Coimbatore: Former Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy has rallied support for Congress candidate Mayura Jayakumar who is contesting the DMK-led Mathasarbatra Murpokku Kootani in Coimbatore South constituency.
Oommen Chandy later told reporters that he believed the United Democratic Front would win the forthcoming assembly elections in Kerala and that coalition parties were performing very well and campaigning well.
"In the case of Kerala, neither the BJP nor the Marxist Communist Party is strong enough to pose a threat. But we suspect that the BJP might indirectly form an alliance with the Communist Party. Due to the diversity in India, every type of electoral alliance is observed in every state. Thus in Tamil Nadu the Communist Parties and the Congress are in the same alliance. But they are opposing teams in Kerala. In some states, the Congress has joined hands with the Communist Party to oppose the BJP, and the Congress has thus always been in a position to oppose the BJP."
On the gold jewelery smuggling cases in Kerala, Oommen Chandy explained that the cases were being investigated.
