Dean praise Coimbatore Government Hospital Doctors achieve by removing thigh cancer tumor in a woman
Coimbatore: A 24-year-old woman from Ooty was admitted to Coimbatore Government Hospital with a large tumor on her right thigh.
On examination, the tumor was found to cause a fracture in the thigh.
The doctors in CMCH performed a complex surgery and the tumor was successfully removed.
Hospital Dean Nirmala said, "For the woman who had a tumor on the thigh, the doctors said that the bottom of the thigh should be amputated. Following this, the medical team consulted and decided to perform the surgery without amputating her legs. For this, muscle strengthening mechanism therapy was given and the femur samples were taken and a metal replacement was precisely designed.
Later, under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme, state-of-the-art non-malignant bone cancer surgery was performed. Currently, the affected bone in the thigh has been removed and fitted with metal structure. The leg muscles are constantly strengthened and she is being trained to walk. The team comprising ofDr. Suresh Venkatachalam of the Department of Oncology, Dr. Vetrivel Chezhiyan of the Department of Orthopedics and Dr. Kalyana Sundaram of the Department of Anesthesiology have successfully performed this treatment."
