Labourers in fear as elephants encamp in tea estate in Valparai
Coimbatore: More than a hundred wild elephants are camping in various tea estates in Valparai, Coimbatore district. These wild elephants are trespassing workers' housing areas, damaging their homes, shops, canteens, ration shops and schools. Forest department and tea plantation guards are chasing wild elephants.
Today 8 wild elephants entered the Thaimudi tea estate and encamped in the area since morning.
The works of picking tea leaves and medicine spraying are affected. There are also fears that wild elephants may enter the workers' housing area at night, and the forest department and tea plantation guards are actively monitoring the wild elephants to prevent them from entering the nearby residential area.
