Coimbatore: All eyes are on Coimbatore's South Constituency, as Makkal Needhi Maiam President, Kamal Haasan BJP's National Women’s Wing President, Vanathi Srinivasan and the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee's Working President, Mayura S. Jayakumar will be contesting in the upcoming State Assembly elections 2021 to be held on April 6.
Days after Kamal Haasan's campaign involving chit-chats with voters during his early morning walks has slowed down, Mayura Jayakumar has intensified his campaign in the constituency. Mayura has meticulously planned his strategy to win, this time say his close aides. During the 2016 elections, Mayura Jayakumar lost to Amman K Arjunan in the same constituency.
The profile of the constituency has rose to great heights and Coimbatore South is now being closely observed, say political analysts. With majority of election predictions pointing at DMK's victory combined with anti-BJP wave, Mayura Jayakumar has his chances of winning, this time if he works diligently, they opined.
Beginning his campaign by offering his prayers at Ukkadam Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple, he was spotted campaigning at Ward No 54 in Ram Nagar. He was seen interacting with the residents promising to attend to their grievances, especially civic issues. Targeting, BJP Candidate Vanathi Srinivasan, the Congress working President said that like her defeat in Mylapore, Chennai, she should be prepared to face one here. He mocked that Vanathi Srinivasan is only betting on Hindu votes.
"Vanathi Srinivasan has wrongly judged the people of South constituency. They don't vote for religion. They are wise voters who cannot be misled by BJP's tactics of Hindutva. To the contrary their choice would be to vote for Congress which treats all religions equally", he added and assured that there will be no place for fascism.
"I will be humbled to served the people 24/7. My focus will be to develop the constituency and resolve all civic issues that affects the people on a daily basis", told Mayura Jayakumar. He also promised the voters that Congress and DMK will work hand-in-hand to reduce petrol and LPG prices.
Lambasting at BJP, he remarked that at some point even Coronavirus would fade off, but BJP is a disease like cancer. There is no cure, he added.
He appealed to people to recall how BJP shattered the government's in Karnataka, Maharastra and Puducherry. Instead of contesting in elections and winning, they arm twist the MLAs and Ministers and grab the power. However, the same cannot be dreamt in TN, he told.
Commenting on Kamal Haasan's possibilities of victory in the south constituency, the Congress candidate asserted that "As Kamal Haasan doesn't belong from this place, there is an evident disconnect between him and the people."
