Coimbatore: "The colour of my politics is neither black nor saffron", said Makkal Needhi Maiam, President and South Constituency candidate, Kamal Haasan in a public meeting held today, here.
His statement which is in contrary to his statement in 2018 has raised the eyebrows amid politicians and public. Back in 2018, the actor-turned politician said that the colour of his politics is black, and that he is concerned about saffron colour. He said black in his politics reflects a Dravidian tone and the dark skin."It's culturally not a bad colour for us Tamils."
With both Kamal Haasan and Dr.R. Mahendran, Vice President of the Party fielding in Coimbatore South and Singanallur constituency respectively, both the prominent figures have camped in Coimbatore to garner mass support.
Speaking at a public meet today, Kamal Haasan said he has taken his political plunge to clean the dirt in the state created by the two dravidian parties.
Targeting both the dravidian parties, Kamal Haasan went on to say that “Makkal Needhi Maiam will remove any of its workers, if they are found to be corrupted. I challenge the two Dravidian bastions, if they can do so."
"Whenever I question the Ministers, they backlash against me and say I am personally attacking them. No I am not personally attacking them but I am daringly questioning them, as they are corrupted”, Kamal Hassan said.
Seeking vote for Dr R Mahendran and other two candidates -- Mayilswamy and Senthilnathan, who are contesting from Palladam and Valparai respectively, the actor-politician chided Minister SP Velumani for approving the contract with Suez, the multinational company with whom the civic administration has signed an agreement for Rs.2,972.16 crore to revamp water distribution in the old Corporation areas.
"Why charge for water distribution? Isn't one of the basic right of the people?" slammed Kamal. He added that clean water, food and education must be provided free of cost to the people and MNM wil accomplish it, if voted to power.
"Once the government is made debt-free, we will provide free education to our citizens", he noted.
He reminded the voters to recall the horrendous incident that took place in the year 2000 when three students were burnt to death after Tamil Nadu Agricultural University bus was set on fire during a protest by AIADMK. "Don't forget the incident, vote wisely", he appealed to the public.
When asked by one of the fans to speak in Coimbatore dialect, in which the actor seen to have spoken in a movie acted himself named "Sathileelavathi", he refused and said ‘I have not come here to act’.
"As of now, I have paused all my acting works. I have come here for the future of my people, so please don’t ask me to act here. Still, if you want to enjoy my acting, please watch the movies on YouTube and let me know your comments through my office email", he sarcastically replied to his fan.
"Yes, there is a third front in Tamil Nadu. The perception of voting either for DMK or AIADMK should be annihilated from people's mind, as both the parties are corrupted", he said.
In its debut electoral poll in 2019, Makkal Needhi Maiam was voted around 3.8% in Lok Sabha election, securing mostly urban votes.
