108 Ambulance drivers and workers expressed their worries about the mockery of emergency help services which help recover people who get caught in accidents and patients who need emergency support.
Coimbatore: Sabari alias Manigandan (30), Sakshvadan (27) and other friends went to drink alcohol at a nearby Tasmac in Mannur near Pollachi. One of his friends who was intoxicated slept inside the Tasmac.
On seeing this Manigandan informed 108 ambulance services for help.
The 108 ambulance workers who arrived at the scene checked the man and informed Manigandan that the man is sleeping because he was drunk.
But Manigandan got into an argument with the ambulance workers urging them to admit the guy who was sleeping.
When the 108 ambulance workers denied to take the sleeping friend to the hospital, Manigandan's friends cussed the workers using degraded words and also attacked them using alcohol bottles.
To escape from them the 108 ambulance drivers locked themselves inside the ambulance. But that only made things worse, the drunken gang scolded the ambulance workers using explicit language and also caused damage to the ambulance by throwing the bottles on it.
Later the ambulance workers filed a complaint at the Pollachi Taluk police station who after a thorough investigation arrested the two members who caused trouble.
