No need Suez Project, just the regularize the present drinking water project: Coimbatore Velandipalayam area people demand
Coimbatore: The people ofVelandipalayam area of Coimbatore have refused waiting or supporting the Suez drinking water project and have asked to regularize the present drinking water project.
In Ward 13 Velandipalayam, Coimbatore people complained that there is lack of basic infrastructure facilities. The people alleged that the sewage drains was not constructed and that the proper drinking water facilities were not provided, the roads were not repaired and widened, and that accidents occur on a daily basis.
They said that drinking water is supplied once in 10 days usually and once a week ahead of the elections. They also said that there was no clear response from the corporation to the complaints that the salt water supply was not being continued.
They questioned how a corporation that could not provide proper drinking water once every 10 days could provide drinking water 24 hours a day through the Suez project. So, they said it was enough to implement the present drinking water project properly.
They demanded government hospital and primary health care centers in their area as the public had to travel long distances for emergency treatment as there is no government hospital near them. They have asked to set up a library for the use of students. They also demanded that an electric cemetery be set up in their area as only the old cemeteries in their area are still in use.
They also complained that officials have taken no action on any of the complaints so far regarding improperly cleaned sewers, drinking water, lack of adequate street lights, very bad roads and preventing sewage from entering homes during the rainy season
They said that although there were enough places to set up fair price shops, the one that is set up now is very small and people found it very difficult to use them and asked to relocate it. They also said there has been an increase in street dogs in recent times and there are many including adults and children are victims of stray dog bites.
They also alleged mosquito infestation has also increased due to improper cleaning of sewers and no action has been taken on behalf of the corporation.
They said no action was taken after lodging a complaint with the police that the youths were drinking alcohol in the evenings in an unused parks in the area and disturbing the women and children passing by. They said the issue should be resolved immediately.
The area is home to more than 20,000 people, of whom at least 12,000 have the right to vote. They accused the corporation administration of neglecting to address the basic problems in an area were so many thousands of people live.
