Fulfilling basic amenities will be the foremost priority, promises Mahendran, MNM VP and Singanallur candidate
In an informal interaction with people from various walks of life during his campaign for the upcoming elections to be held on April 6, Dr. Mahendran expressed his concern over lack of basic amenities in the constituency. From garbage disposal to pothole-free roads, the constituency needs micro attention and that would be his priority, if elected to power, he said.

"It's appalling that even after years of planning and execution, people still lament about bad roads, inordinate delay in water distribution, poor garbage disposal system, street lights, and others. Massive investments and high profile projects, so far have achieved relatively very little. And, that's because the needs and suggestions of the citizens are not taken into consideration at the planning phase. The bitter truth is, the government or the civic administration doesn't function in sync with the needs of the people. The discrepancies we see around in terms of poor basic amenities, validates the allegation", he told SimpliCity.

Talking to residents of ward 57, 63, 61, 60 of Singanallur constituency on Thursday, Dr. Mahendran listened to their grievances and promised to address their issues on priority. He also added that continuous efforts will transform the constituency into an iconic area in Coimbatore city.
'If elected to power, my focus would be geared towards ward wise developments, repair and resolving civic issues. Among the issues, road, underground drainage and water supply are some of the issues, the constituents expect immediate redressal", he said.
As Singanallur Constituency has a promising potential for industrial growth and development, the MNM candidate hinted that he has some exciting plans in his manifesto for the constituency which he will shortly inform.

Unlike other candidates, whose focus would be on mid-aged or senior citizens, Dr. Mahendran believes the youth are not to be ignored. During his morning and evening campaigns at Singanallur Constituency, he makes sure to discuss with the first time voters to understand their pulse and their expectations. In the 17th Lok Sabha elections held in May 2019, Mahendran who was a debut candidate representing MNM secured third position with 1,45,104 votes (11.60%) vote share, and left his contestants surprised. It was then speculated that a lot of first-time voters had voted for him.

Dr. Mahendran is one candidate in Coimbatore who will be watched closely by the two parties, DMK and AIADMK, as they believe he would spilt considerable amount of votes, though not convinced of his victory. With Kamal Haasan, President of MNM contesting in South Constituency, limelight on Dr. Mahendran will be evident this time. In 2011, AIADMK won the constituency and back in 2016, Singanallur was the only constituency among the 10 in Coimbatore district won by DMK. Hence. people of this constituency -- who are mostly A, B, B plus voters in majority and C segment voters also in place, have been open to change in the past. With long-pending civic issues still in place, we have to wait until the results to see if the Singanallur constituency voters elect Dr. Mahendran who promises a meaningful 'Change'.
Dr. Mahendran will be facing off with the sitting MLA from DMK Na. Karthik, KR Jayaraman from AIADMK, and Selva from AMMK in the constituency.
