Congress candidate Mayura Jayakumar collects votes from Islamic community in Coimbatore South constituency
Coimbatore: Congress candidate Mayura Jayakumar, who is contesting from Coimbatore South constituency on behalf of the Mathasarbatra Murpokku Kootani of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has been campaigning for seats in wards with Muslim community, emphasizing various demands for minorities.
He collected votes by asking Muslims to vote for the hand symbol as they finished prayers at a mosque near Ukkadam. He asked people to vote for him in the forthcoming assembly elections and distributed pamphlets that promised to repeal anti-people laws such as the Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Citizens' Register and the National Population Register, and to protect the livelihoods of minorities, including Muslims.
He promised to implement many more programs to protect the interests of the minority population if he was elected.
