Coimbatore: A team of officials from Revenue, Mines, TANGEDCO, Forest, TNPCB have rushed to initiate action upon illegal brick kilns mushroomed in Thadagam valley, Coimbatore.
Acting upon the Madras High Court order presided by two judge bench on 10-02-2021 to immediately close all illegally functioning brick kilns, the officials have begun the process, on Friday.
The Madras High Court had ordered for immediate closure of brick kilns functioning in Chinna Thadagam, Nanjundapuram, Veerapandi, Somayampalayam and Pannimadai.
A team of local officials have also done a surprise check at these kilns earlier and seized trucks and tractors transporting mines illegally.
With assembly elections nearing, the joint action by various departments have come as a huge relief to the people and environmentalists.
Activist Ganesh said it is a big breaking news and a much-needed relief for the people of these five panchayats who have been facing multiple health issues.
“We want all the brick kilns to be sealed despite the officials closing few of it” Ganesh added.

A team of officials including Hill areas conservation authority (HACA) are present at the spot.
