Earlier this week on Tuesday, the district recorded 81 new cases followed by 107 on Wednesday and 77 new cases, on Thursday. As many as 512 people are under treatment while 48 patients have been discharged on Thursday, in Coimbatore.
District Collector K Rajamani has also announced of re-opening one Covid centre in the city after the cases are increasing slowly. He also warned the people to be vigilant of the pandemic situation.
Over all, the total number of cases in Coimbatore as of Thursday stands at 56,814 with 686 deaths. Active cases in Coimbatore, as of today is 541.
Dr. Nirmala, Dean of CMCH said the rise in case is due to the recklessness by people. Many are seen without masks and no social distancing is being maintained, she added.
"After cases declined, people seem to have taken Covid lightly and stopped wearing masks, hand washing and organising mass gatherings. Coimbatore people who were lauded for following Covid protocols meticulously are now careless", added Dean Nirmala.
The number of active cases in CMCH is 41 of which majority of them are elders with diabetes, as co-morbidities.So far, CMCH has provided vaccinations of Covishield and Covaxin to over 10,000 members in its second phase, she added.
Since the pandemic 3,80,261 passengers have arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport from various destinations.Close to 3,580 flights have boarded and arrived here, in which nearly 364 of them have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, as of Wednesday.
Total number of persons tested positive on Thursday for the virus in Tamil Nadu stands at 989.While 569 patients were discharged today following treatment, atleast 9 people succumbed to the disease. The number of active cases in TN has increased from 5,811 to 6,222 in one day. As of now there are 259 (69 government plus 190 private) COVID-19 testing facilities in Tamil Nadu, with more cases in the coming days, the health department might increase the centres.
