Elephant carcass recovered in a decomposed state in Pethikuttai
The Nilgiris: A carcass of a female elephant was recovered in a decomposed state in Pethikuttai. A forest department team led by a forest officer was engaged in a routine patrol in the Coimbatore Pethikuttai forest yesterday evening. They then found the carcass of a female elephant, about 20-25 years old, in the Mayilmokkai range in the Pethikuttai Reserve Forest.
There were no external injuries on the body of the dead elephant. Pethikuttai forest has infectious and contagious conditions. Therefore, it seems that the female elephant may have died 3 days ago due to an infection. The autopsy is scheduled to happen today.
