Later a veterinary doctor performed a necropsy on the elephant's body after which the elephant's body was left for the other animals to feed on.
Coimbatore: Valparai is home to a large number of elephants. As a part of the forest official's patrol near the Kavargal Pallam forest area, Officials reported a bad stench near the area and went to investigate it.

Forest officials found a male elephant dead in the area and informed the forest ranger, the chief forest officer and Assistant Director of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. Later the officials arrived at the scene and investigated the place for evidence.
Forest officials then concluded that the elephant was dead as a result of a fight with another elephant and said that tusk marks were identified in the injuries sustained by the dead elephant.
