People suffer due to suffocation due to fire at Vellalore garbage depot again.
Coimbatore: There was a fire again at Vellalore garbage depot causing people to suffer due to suffocation. A fire broke out at the Vellalore garbage depot in Coimbatore last evening. The South Fire Department fought and extinguished the fire for about 3 hours. Last week too there was a fire in here and they fought for 8 hours and extinguished the fire that burned on over 30 acres.
As there was fire again the fire department extinguished the fire that has spread in several places. The fire department said the fire may have spread through unburned charcoal in the dump and match sticks from discarded matchboxes.
To put out the fire, the public has demanded that fire trucks always be parked at the garbage depot premises. Frequent fires at landfills are likely to cause suffocation for people living in residential areas near the Vellalore landfill. They asked that the garbage should be graded and also the public has demanded that garbage not be allowed to be dumped in the warehouse with flammable materials.
