Kamal Haasan promises to bring about changes in Coimbatore South just as he brought about changes in Cinema
Coimbatore: Kamal Haasan promises to bring about changes in Coimbatore South just as he brought about changes in Cinema.
The public meeting of the Makkal Neethi Maiam was held at the Raja street, Thermutti area next to Townhall in Coimbatore.
Kamal Haasan, President of Makkal Neethi Maiam and R. Mahendran, V. Ponraj, Former MLA and many people including the leader of Tamilaga Makkal Jananayaga Katchi KM Sheriff attended the event.
Pazha. Karuppaiah who spoke at the event said, “DMK leader Stalin said that he does not oppose citizenship law and that it was a betrayal of Islamic community. We are of the opinion that the state is common to all and the state should not have religion. There is place for atheist Kamal Haasan and me who is also an atheist to work together at the Makkal Neethi Maiam. Kamal is a political leader who dares to say that I have no caste or religion. The widespread perception that the third front could not win was broken when MGR came to power when the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were present.
BJP south candidate Vanathi Srinivasan commented that the actors would act just during elections. But we leave the acting in front of the cameras and come as genuine people to the stage.”
Kamal Haasan, who spoke after Pazha Karuppiah introduced the various candidates. He introduced Coimbatore and Tirupur district constituency candidates in the following order - Coimbatore North - Thangavel, Singanallur - Dr. R. Mahendran, Kavundampalayam- Surabi Pangan, Sulur- Rangarajan, Palladam- Mayilsamy, Valparai- Senthilkumar, Pollachi- Satishkumar Kinathukkadavu- Siva, Udumalaipettai- Srinithi, Tirupur North- Sivabalan, Tirupur South- Anusha Mettupalayam- Rajkumar.
He said, "Politics is for serving people, in which we have traveled for 40 years. They say I will go acting after the election, he said acting is my profession, politics is my duty."
When asked why he chose Coimbatore, he said, "Make me win and then you will never ask why I chose Coimbatore after five years. I will improve Coimbatore South to that extent. There are a lot of IAS officers and educated people in Makkal Neethi Maiam and all of them have joined our party to serve the people. I will strive to reclaim the resources of the Kongu Zone and our goal is not for power but to reform Tamil Nadu. The devastation that was created in fifty years cannot be set right in five years. I am thus speaking with the next election in mind."
He said “he would showcase the changes in Coimbatore south just as he had demonstrated the changes in cinema.” Tamilaga Janayaga Makkal Katchi leader KM Sherrif said that they have been given 10 constituencies and asked Kamal Haasan, chairman of the Makkal Neethi Maiam to give them two more constituencies.”
Kamal who spoke later said that they would be given two constituencies they asked for. Kamal Haasan's stage speech was enjoyed by the public with great applause
