1000 BAP farmers planning to file nominations in Kangayam Assembly constituency condemning the government and insufficient water supply in Vellakovil canal
Coimbatore: Condemning the government and insufficient water supply in Vellakovil 1000 PAP farmers are planning to file nominations in Kangeyam Assembly constituency.
There are a total of 3.77 lakh acres of irrigated land under PAP irrigation which will be opened for irrigation from Thirumurthy Dam near Udumalai, Tirupur district. Farmers in the area have been waging various struggles for the past 10 years, claiming that the water released for irrigation in four zones is less than the water supply to the 48,000 acres in the Vellakovil branch canal.
They have gradually reduced the number of days of water supply for 9 rounds with 7 days opening and 7 days of keeping it closed. Also water was provided for 3 days only. They also accused of water theft.

1000 candidates have decided to file nominations in batches in the Kangayam assembly constituency to protest against the continued involvement in malpractices and cheating of farmers. So far 50 nominations have been received and in the first phase the farmers are actively involved in the process of filing 10 nominations by this evening.
