Tirupur: Over 10 lakh workers are directly and indirectly benefited at the Tirupur Textile industries. An industry which brings business worth of ₹48,000 crores everywhere has been dull for 3 months because of the hike in price of the thread which is now capped at 70 rupees.
Due to this, textile industries and other manufacturers based on textile industries are affected miserably. The Industrialists say that the companies here are not able to complete the job orders as the production cost is higher than the initial budget.
They also say that it's difficult for them to compete against the prices offered by countries like China and Bangladesh.
Since the hike in the price of thread directly affects the livelihood of over 10 lakh workers, Tirupur exporters associations like TEMA, SIMA, NITMA and other unions today on 15.03.2021 went on a strike.

Over 10,000 textile industries were shut down today because of this causing a loss of over 200 crores. More than 1000 members took part in a demonstration requesting the government to curb the price of threads.

Along with the strike and demonstration, a walk was planned from Tirupur Corporation Office till the Tirupur Railway Station. But since the nominations for state assembly elections are being conducted, permission for the walk was denied. However more than 1000 members took part in a demonstration in front of the Tirupur Railway Station.
