135 liters of drinking water distributed per person in Coimbatore West Zone
Coimbatore: Corporation officials said that 135 liters of drinking water per person per day will be distributed to the Kavundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam areas in the west zone of Coimbatore under the drinking water development project. The Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Drainage Board has planned to implement a Rs. 108.16 crore drinking water development project to provide drinking water to Kavundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam areas in the west zone of Coimbatore. Funding for this was obtained from the German Development Bank under the Financial Assistance Scheme through a loan of Rs.61.80 crore from the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund. Apart from this Rs. 30.90 crore has been allotted as Government of Tamil Nadu grant and Rs. 15.46 crore as contribution from Coimbatore Corporation.
According to the project, 6.52 MLT of drinking water will be taken from the 30 lakh liter capacity reservoir tank at Ramakrishnapuram and collected at the Jai Nagar ground level tank. From there it is taken to the Kavundampalayam and collected in the ground level water tank. The additional drinking water will be taken to the newly constructed 12 overhead reservoirs at Kavundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam and 19 overhead tanks that are already in use.
Corporation officials said, "The drinking water development projects started in 2016 have been completed. Drinking water has been distributed to 26,659 households under this scheme since last February. Drinking water is provided at a rate of 135 liters per person per day."
