Coimbatore: As a part of celebrations of International Women's Day on 8th March, The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore has launched an initiative to promote Women Entrepreneurs.
This special forum was formed to address specific needs of Women Entrepreneurs concerning business related issues. 'Women Wise' will bring together the collective wisdom of Women Entrepreneurs and initiate changes through them.
The objective of this forum is to bring to the women who do not have easy access to areas like marketing, sourcing, finance, IT etc, and help them resolve issues.
President C Balasubramanian, in his welcome address stated that the Chamber will take up the Women Empowerment as a special vertical adding a dimension to the activities of the chamber.
Vanitha Mohan, Past President of the Chamber in her address said that WW will initially create a data bank of Women Mentors who will share their experiences and learnings with prospective Women entrepreneurs and homepreneurs.
A 'Help Desk' will also be established at the Chamber premises to provide guidance on various aspects of business.
The Forum was launched by Nalini Shanmugham, Grand Daughter of R K Shanmukham Chetty, the First Union Finance Minister of Independent India and Founder President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore and Nandini Rangaswamy, Chairperson & Founder Trustee, GRG Institutions.
This Forum will endeavour to not only help Women Entrepreneurs set up new business but also facilitate ease of doing business for existing Entrepreneurs.
J Mohana Sundari, Managing Director, M/s Sharp Electrodes Pvt Ltd, honoured the launch as the Chief Guest.
While addressing Nalini Shanmugham and Dr Nandini Rangaswamy appreciated the efforts of the Chamber for setting up a forum thereby giving thrust to the Women Entrepreneurs for their upliftment and recognition in the society.
Dr B Vanitha, Former Professor of Economics, Bharathiar University, while addressing at the event, Dr B Vanitha elaborately touched the facts and figures of women across the world.
She said "only in 22 Countries Women are heads of the State or Government. Only in three Countries Rwanda, Cuba, Bolivia more than 50% Women are in Parliament.
India has only 14% women representatives in Lok Sabha with a population of 48% of the total. 2/3rds of children who are not in school are girls. She also mentioned that women are under-represented across sectors including core, Oil and gas 7%, Automotive 10%, Pharmaceuticals 11%, and I T 28%.
Women labour force participation is merely 20%, if thewomen Labour Force is increased to that of men then Indian GDP could grow by 27%."
This function was well attended by Women Entrepreneurs, spanning several sectors like Food, IT, Finance and Manufacturing etc, Vaishnavi Krishnan, Member of Governing Council and WWI proposed vote of thanks.
