MLA VC Arukutty dejected over denial of seat; says he has worked a lot for his constituency

PMK, led by S Ramadoss got 23 seats while BJP got 20 seats in the upcoming elections.

Coimbatore: As the political parties in Tamilnadu turn vigil over providing seats and tickets to candidates for the upcoming assembly elections on April 6th in a single phase, the ruling AIADMK party has released the list of candidates for its 171 constituencies on Wednesday.

While it is told that with the power of BJP being the ally of AIADMK will garner votes, the number of constituencies given to BJP is less compared to PMK.

The ruling party has announced the 171 constituencies and its candidates which includes the prominent figures like ministers SP Velumani, Thangamani, Mafoi Pandiarajan, Sengottaiyan, Dindigul Srinivasan, Pollachi Jeyaraman, Valarmathi, Gokula indira, KP Munuswamy (party’s deputy coordinator) OS Manian, Vaithialingam (MP) and C Vijayabaskar.

In Coimbatore’s Kavundampalayam constituency, which is the second largest constituency in Tamil Nadu in terms of vote banks and in terms of female voters, the party sidelined sitting MLA VC Arukutty, who had won the last two assembly elections with a good percentage of votes defeating the rival DMK candidate Paiya alias Krishnan.

However the party has given the seat of the Kavundampalayam constituency to PRG Arunkumar, who was already an MLA of Coimbatore North constituency.

Speaking to Simplicity, the sitting MLA VC Arukutty cried foul over sidelining him. He said that he had worked a lot for his constituency during his term and added that he stooped so low for the people of his constituency to work as councillor level too.

“I have done all the jobs expected of a councillor and legislator. And I did this for the welfare of my people in my constituency “ he said.

Asked whether the party is in resentment, he said it is discussed and decided after a long time and refused to answer further.

On being asked why the DMDK led by Premalatha, wife of its founder and leader Captain Vijayakanth, left coalition with AIADMK, MLA Arukutty replied that the move is disheartening and they must have waited for the ruling party to decide.
