Coimbatore: District Collector K. Rajamani hoisted a giant balloon at District Collectorate to create awareness ahead of the election. As the Assembly elections are scheduled on April 6, the Election Commission of India has already taken various security measures in view of the coronavirus.

As part of this, Coimbatore District Collector K. Rajamani let off a giant balloon emblazoned with the slogan "Let's wear a face mask and vote" by the Election Commission of India at the Coimbatore District Collector's office premises to create awareness among the people during the election period.

He later told reporters that all precautionary measures had been taken in view of the coronavirus infection. Voters will be provided with a hand glove to use the electronic voting machine and their hands will be sprayed with disinfectant. He said the government was asking people to wear face masks and those who did not wear face masks would be provided with face masks.
He added that people over the age of 80 can cast postal votes if they wish and necessary facilities for the disabled have been made at the polling booths. He said volunteers have also been hired to help them. Money taken without proper documents above Rs. 50,000 will be confiscated as per the rules of the Election Commission. According to the announcement, 43 lakh rupees have been confiscated so far.
He also said that a total of 90 flying squads and an additional 30 special teams have been deployed in ten constituencies in Coimbatore district to follow the election code of conduct.
