Devotee suffocated to death during Vellaiyangiri trek
Coimbatore: A devotee who scaled the Velliangiri hills has suffocated to death during the trek. The forest department, the revenue department and the trust have been in talks since last week to give permission to the devotees to climb the Vellingiri hill, which was banned due to the coronavirus.
Accordingly, devotees from different districts are coming to Velliyangiri. Yesterday, while descending from the hill, devotees saw a 45-year-old lying dead on the 2nd hill. He was a devotee and had sticks for trekking in his hand. The Forest Department was immediately notified. Immediately, the forest department and the hill tribesmen rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy.
Forest department said that he might have died due to suffocation due to heavy mist. Investigations are on to identify the person and where he came from.
