Coimbatore South constituency becomes the VIP constituency with fierce competition to contest
Coimbatore: Coimbatore South constituency has become the VIP constituency as there is a fierce competition amongst party members to contest there. Coimbatore district has 10 assembly constituencies. There are 15 lakh 9 thousand 531 male, 15 lakh 52 thousand 699 female and 414 third gender voters and a total of 30 lakh 62 thousand 744. Coimbatore (Corporation) Ward No. 21 to 47 consists of Southern Assembly constituency.
The Coimbatore South constituency includes important places
Many political parties are interested in contesting in Coimbatore South constituency out of 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore. The southern block of Coimbatore serves as the main area of the district, including the Government Hospital, Railway Station, Commissioner's Office, District Superintendent of Police's Office, District Collector's Office, District Fire Station, Gandhipuram Bus Stand, Private Hospitals and Combined Court complex.
AIADMK has won 2 times in the Coimbatore South constituency
Still, as the candidates have not been announced, there is a fierce rivalry between the coalition parties as to who should contest in the southern constituency. AIADMK has won Coimbatore South constituency 2 times. Therefore, AIADMK District Secretary Amman Arjunan MLA, who contested and won the last 2016 elections, has expressed his desire to contest in this constituency. Similarly, BJP national women's team leader Vanathi Srinivasan has expressed interest in contesting in the same constituency. At the end of much talk, it is said that Vanathi Srinivasan will contest from Coimbatore South constituency.
DMK alliance candidate
Also, Mayura Jayakumar, the state vice-president of the Congress party in the DMK alliance, has filed a petition to contest in this constituency. Similarly, on behalf of the DMK, Meena Jayakumar is said to be likely to contest in the same constituency. In the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency, Meena Jayakumar is the leading female candidate on behalf of the DMK.
Makkal Neethi Maiam Vice President contests
In the last parliamentary election, Dr R Mahendran, the state vice-president of the Makkal Neethi Maiam which contested in the same constituency and got 1,45,104 votes (11.60%), is said to be contesting from the Coimbatore South constituency.
Naam Tamilar Party
Similarly, Naam Tamilar Party state coordinator Abdul Waqaf Coimbatore has been declared the candidate for the southern constituency. The Coimbatore South constituency has become the VIP constituency in Coimbatore as the National, State and District Administrators are to contest in the Coimbatore South constituency.
Already, SP Velumani, who has won the Thondamuthur constituency and is the Minister of LocalAdministration and Rural Development Special Programs Implementation, is all set to contest from Thondamuthur constituency again. Pollachi Jayaraman is all set to contest from Pollachi constituency again as the Deputy Speaker who contested and won in Pollachi constituency last time.
Therefore, the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency has become a VIP constituency.
