Coimbatore: Armed police security for statues of leaders in Coimbatore following the burning of the Periyar statue in Krishnagiri. The statues of all the leaders were closed as soon as the announcement of the assembly election was made. A fire broke out at the Periyar statue in Krishnagiri the day before yesterday and the statues of political leaders and other leaders across the Coimbatore district have since then been guarded 24 hours a day by armed police.
This caused a stir in Coimbatore following which apart from the statues of E.V.Ramasamy, the statues of other political party leaders have been covered with cloth due to the election code of conduct. Following the fire incident at Krishnagiri police have put up security for statues of political party leaders in Coimbatore.
