Coimbatore: 651 guns handed over to police station across Coimbatore district. Election officials had ordered the owners of guns throughout the Coimbatore district to hand them over to their border police stations immediately ahead of the assembly election. Following that, 651 firearms were handed over to police stations across Coimbatore district till yesterday and a proper receipt was given for it.
The guns will be duly handed over to them as soon as the elections are over. Assembly elections are about to take place and until the election results are released, gun owners are advised to hand over the weapons at police stations and to get the acknowledgement slip.
In Coimbatore district, 661 people, including farmers, political party figures, businessmen and ex-servicemen, have licensed guns for their protection. After they were informed about the handing over of the guns, 651 people handed over their guns to police stations.
