Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner informs that Vellalore Garbage Depot fire has been extinguished. A fire broke out at the Coimbatore Vellalore garbage depot yesterdayand the garbage was seen burning along with smoke causing people to suffer from shortness of breath.
Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian said that the fire at the Vellalore landfill has been completely extinguished.
Coimbatore Vellalore landfill covers an area of 650 acres. Garbage from 100 wards in Coimbatore is stored and recycled here. About 900 to 1000 tons of garbage is dumped here every day. Frequent fires are likely to occur due to methane gas generated from garbage in this landfill due to the impact of the wind.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out at the Vellalore landfill yesterday afternoon. More than 2,000 families in nearby Podanur, Anbunagar and Chettipalayam bypass road areas suffered from suffocation. Elderly, children and women were affected. 4 fire trucks were involved to put out the fire
