Drinking water supply has been established in the areas of Kavundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam as part of the Abiviruthi Plan in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: A budget of ₹108.16 crores was allocated to establish the Abiviruthi Plan by the TamilNadu Water Supply Board in the areas of Kavundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam in Coimbatore.
This plan has been executed under the German Development Bank fund loan of ₹61.80 crores, Tamilnadu government subsidy of ₹30.90 crores along with funds from Coimbatore Corporation of ₹15.46 crores.
Around 6.52 MLT drinking water is taken from the water supply tank at Ramakrishnapuram which has a capacity of 30 lakh litres. Post that the water will be saved at a 10 lakh litre ground level water tank in Jai Nagar. The water is then taken by pumps to the ground level tanks in Kavundampalayam.
Also the water that is taken from the tanks is distributed to the 12 newly constructed tanks and 19 previously existing tanks in the areas of Kavundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam. By this plan water is being supplied to around 26,659 households.
This plan which began in 2016 has now been completed 100% and is currently used by the public since February. With the help of this plan 125 litres of water is being distributed to per person/ per day.

Meanwhile, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian conducted an investigation about the execution of Abiviruthi Plan and asked about the steady water supply to the area public.
District Engineer Lakshmanan, Executive Engineer Saravanan and others were present during the inspection.
